On August 16, 2020 a thunderstorm swept through California producing over 11,000 bolts of lightning.  Santa Cruz was one of over 86 fires that were started as a result of that thunderstorm.  When the fire was extinguished, over 1,490 buildings were destroyed and over 86,000 acres of land had been consumed.
